About JEE Main 2027 Session 1
The National Testing Agency conducts the Joint Entrance Examination (Main) for admission to undergraduate engineering, architecture and planning programmes, including at National Institutes of Technology, Indian Institutes of Information Technology and other participating institutions, and Paper 1 is also the qualifying examination for JEE (Advanced). The 2027 examination is held in two sessions, and this post covers Session 1, the January 2027 session, only. Session 2, in April 2027, has a separate application window, so do not confuse the two sets of dates.
Dates for Session 1
Online submission of the application form for Session 1 runs from 24 October 2026 to 22 November 2026, up to 11:50 pm, and the last date for successful transaction of the prescribed application fee is also 22 November 2026. Candidates who miss that window can still submit with a late fee of Rs 500, uniform for all categories, from 23 to 26 November 2026, with fee payment up to 11:50 pm on 26 November. The correction window for particulars in the online application form is 27 to 29 November 2026. The city intimation slip is scheduled for 30 December 2026, downloading of admit cards from the NTA website for 13 January 2027, and the examination itself on 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 28 January 2027.
Who can apply
For appearing in JEE (Main) 2027 there is no age limit. Candidates who have passed the Class 12 or equivalent examination in 2025 or 2026, or are appearing in 2027, irrespective of their age, can appear, subject to fulfilling the age criteria, if any, of the institution they seek admission to. That distinction matters: the examination itself does not set an age bar, but an individual institute's admission rules still apply, so check the institute's requirements separately. The Information Bulletin also states that a candidate can submit only one application form, and multiple forms will not be accepted and can lead to cancellation of the result.
Fee and examination pattern
For centres in India, the fee for Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech.) or Paper 2A (B.Arch.) or Paper 2B (B.Planning) is Rs 1,000 for General male candidates and Rs 800 for General female candidates, Rs 900 for Gen-EWS/OBC (NCL) male and Rs 800 for female, and Rs 500 for SC/ST/PwD/PwBD candidates and third gender candidates. Combined papers cost more, for example Rs 2,000 for General/Gen-EWS/OBC male candidates taking Paper 1 with Paper 2A or Paper 2B. Processing charges and GST, as applicable, are paid in addition. Paper 1, Paper 2A and Paper 2B each run for three hours, except B.Arch. and B.Planning together, which run for three hours and 30 minutes, in two shifts, 9 am to 12 noon and 3 pm to 6 pm, with the longer papers running to 12:30 pm and 6:30 pm.
How to apply, and what to watch
Apply online only through jeemain.nta.nic.in, following the Information Bulletin, and keep the confirmation page generated after successful fee payment. If the confirmation page is not generated after payment, the bulletin directs candidates to approach the bank or payment gateway helpdesk to ensure the payment or obtain a refund of duplicate payments. Do not wait for the last day: the late-fee window exists, but it costs an extra Rs 500 and still closes on 26 November, and corrections are limited to certain fields in the correction window.
