The Gujarat Subordinate Service Selection Board (GSSSB), Gandhinagar, has invited online applications for 84 Food Safety Officer, Class-3 posts under the Commissioner of Food and Drug Control Administration, Health and Family Welfare Department, under Advertisement No. 465/202627. Selection is through a competitive examination for direct recruitment. Applications are invited only through the OJAS website.

Vacancies

There are 84 vacancies in total for the Food Safety Officer, Class-3 cadre. A separate special recruitment drive advertisement, No. 466/202627, has also been issued for 6 Food Safety Officer posts reserved only for persons with disabilities, with the same application window.

Eligibility

Candidates must possess a Master's Degree in Chemistry, or a degree in Food Technology, Dairy Technology, Biotechnology, Oil Technology, Agriculture Science, Veterinary Science, Bio-Chemistry, Microbiology or Medicine, from a recognised university, or an equivalent qualification recognised by the Government. The 2023 Health and Family Welfare notification also recognises Bachelor's, Master's and Doctorate degrees in the listed Food Technology and Agricultural Science disciplines, including Food Engineering, Food Processing Technology, Food Safety and Quality Management, Agriculture, Horticulture, Fisheries and Food Nutrition and Dietetics. Candidates must also possess basic knowledge of computer application as prescribed in the Gujarat Civil Services rules, and adequate knowledge of Gujarati or Hindi or both. No person having any financial interest in the manufacture, import or sale of any article of food can be appointed as a Food Safety Officer. The age limit is 18 to 37 years as on 10 November 2026, with relaxations as per the rules for women, reserved categories, persons with disabilities and Ex-Servicemen, subject to the maximum age limits stated in the advertisement.

Salary

Selected candidates are appointed on a fixed pay of Rs. 40,800 per month for the first five years, with other benefits as per the Finance Department resolutions. After five years, subject to satisfactory service, candidates become eligible for regular appointment in the 7th Pay Commission pay scale of Rs. 29,200-92,300 (Level-5), subject to the outcome of the Supreme Court SLPs stated in the advertisement.

Fee

The examination fee for the preliminary examination is Rs. 500 for unreserved category candidates and Rs. 400 for reserved category candidates, including women of all categories, SEBC, SC, ST, EWS, persons with disabilities and Ex-Servicemen. The fee is to be paid online only, and the fee paid is refunded to candidates who appear for the examination.
