About TES-57

The Technical Entry Scheme is the Indian Army's direct officer entry for candidates who have just finished school with science. TES-57 is the 57th course under this scheme, and it begins in July 2027. Unlike a regular graduate entry, you join straight after Class 12, study engineering as part of your military training, and come out as a commissioned officer. That combination is what makes this entry different from other Army entries: the degree and the commission arrive together, after the same four-year course.

Who can apply

This entry is only for unmarried male candidates. The academic bar has two parts, and both must be met. First, you need 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, with at least 60% in aggregate across those three subjects. The notification is specific that the percentage is calculated on PCM marks, not on your overall Class 12 percentage, so work out the PCM aggregate separately before applying. Second, you must have appeared in JEE (Main) 2026. Appearing is the requirement; the notification does not set a separate JEE score cut-off in the summary, and shortlisting cut-offs are published later, tentatively in the third week of November 2026.

Age is counted on 1 July 2027, the month the course starts. You must be at least 16 and a half and not more than 19 and a half on that date, which works out to being born between 2 January 2008 and 1 January 2011. Only the date of birth on your Class 10 or equivalent certificate is accepted, and it cannot be changed once recorded, so check it against your certificate before you submit.

Vacancies and pay

There are 90 provisional vacancies. Provisional matters here: the final number depends on how many training places are available at the Cadets Training Wings, so the figure can move up or down. On commissioning, a Lieutenant starts at Pay Level 10, from Rs 56,100 to Rs 1,77,500 per month, plus Military Service Pay of Rs 15,500 per month. During training, a stipend of Rs 56,100 per month is paid after three years of training, and the cost of training itself is borne by the government.

Selection process

Selection runs in stages: shortlisting, a five-day SSB interview, medical examination, a merit list, and then a joining letter. Shortlisting is based on JEE Main scores, so your JEE performance decides whether you reach the SSB at all. The SSB itself, tentatively in February to March 2027, tests personality, group tasks and interview performance over five days, and the medical examination follows its own confidential board process. Training is split into two phases: three years of integrated basic military and engineering training at a Cadets Training Wing in Pune, Mhow or Secunderabad, followed by one year at the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. Candidates who complete the course receive an engineering degree and a Permanent Commission in the rank of Lieutenant, mostly in the Corps of Engineers, Signals, and Electronics and Mechanical Engineers.

How to prepare

Start with the notification PDF itself, not with summaries of it. Confirm your PCM aggregate, your date-of-birth window, and that you appeared in JEE (Main) 2026, because those three checks decide eligibility before anything else. If you clear shortlisting, SSB preparation is a different skill from written exams: practice group discussion and group tasks, be ready to explain your own background and choices clearly in interview, and keep your physical fitness up for the medical stage. Apply well before 12 November 2026, since the Army portal is the only place to apply, and a last-day rush leaves no room to fix a certificate mismatch.
