About this position

The Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), Kolkata, has issued Advertisement No. PU/507/ADV/919 dated 27 October 2026, for 5 Project-Linked Persons (Junior Research Assistants), purely temporary, in the Linguistic Research Unit (LRU), Kolkata, for the project "Vidyaapati: Bidirectional Machine Translation Involving Bengali, Konkani, Maithili, Marathi, and Hindi" (2022-2025), funded by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India. The tenure is up to 31 March 2027 from the date of joining. The consolidated salary is Rs. 40,000 per month, with no other allowances.

Qualification

Essential qualifications: (a) 1st Class in MA in Computational Linguistics, Corpus Linguistics or Applied Linguistics; (b) experience in NLP-related research and development work; (c) knowledge of translation from Hindi to Bengali, Text Processing and Text Annotation; (d) knowledge of Bengali and Hindi grammar, lexicon, syntax, semantics and discourse. Desirable: experience working with translation software and NLP Toolkit; experience in evaluation of Hindi-Bengali parallel translation corpora; and knowledge of project report preparation and research paper writing and presentation. Age should not exceed 35 years as on 31 December 2026, with usual relaxation as stated above.
