The Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) has advertised 458 Junior Engineer (Civil) posts, UT cadre, under Advertisement Notification No. 11 of 2026 dated 27 October 2026, for the Jal Shakti Department and the Public Works (R&B) Department of Jammu and Kashmir. The advertisement states that the actual number of posts may increase or decrease during or before completion of selection, and that the notification is subject to the outcome of any writ petition or original application pending before a competent court.

Vacancies

Item No. 266, Jal Shakti Department, has 282 posts: OM 113, SC 23, ST-1 28, ST-2 28, OBC 22, ALC/IB 11, RBA 28 and EWS 29. Item No. 267, Public Works (R&B) Department, has 176 posts: OM 71, SC 14, ST-1 18, ST-2 18, OBC 14, ALC/IB 7, RBA 17 and EWS 17. The combined total is OM 184, SC 37, ST-1 46, ST-2 46, OBC 36, ALC/IB 18, RBA 45 and EWS 46.

Eligibility

Candidates must be domiciles of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and possess a valid Domicile Certificate issued by the competent authority on the prescribed format on or before the cut-off date of 29 December 2026. The prescribed qualification for both items is a 3-year Diploma in Civil Engineering from a government-recognised institute, or an Indian University Degree in Civil Engineering, or AMIE Section (A and B) India. The qualification must have been acquired on or before the cut-off date, and a candidate with a qualification other than as prescribed is not eligible. The maximum age as on 1 January 2026 is 40 years for OM candidates, 43 years for SC, ST-1, ST-2, RBA, ALC/IB, EWS and OBC candidates, and 42 years for physically challenged persons, with the birth-date limits stated in the advertisement and the Ex-Servicemen service-deduction provision.

Salary

Both posts carry Level-6 pay of Rs. 35,400-1,12,400.

Fee

The application fee is Rs. 600, payable only online through net banking, credit or debit cards. For candidates belonging to SC, ST-1, ST-2, EWS and PwBD categories, the fee is Rs. 500. No category is stated as fully exempt from the fee, and the fee once paid is not refunded under any circumstances and cannot be adjusted against any other examination or selection.

Selection process

Selection is made only on the basis of merit obtained in the written or OMR examination. The examination consists of objective-type multiple-choice questions set in English only, with negative marking of one-fourth of the marks assigned to a question for each wrong answer. The date and centre of the examination and the syllabus are to be notified separately on the official website of the Board. Shortlisted candidates must appear for document verification with original documents and self-attested photocopies; no TA or DA is payable, and candidature remains provisional until scrutiny and document verification.
