Full details

About this recruitment

The Odisha Uniformed Services Staff Selection Commission has opened the Combined Uniformed Services (Below Graduate Level) Examination 2026 for seven uniformed posts across the state police and fire services. This is a large, single-window recruitment: one online application covers constable and driver posts in different cadres, but the eligibility, age and physical standards differ by post, so the post you choose matters more than usual. Read the detailed advertisement before you pick, because a choice made on the form, such as the examination district, cannot be changed after final submission.

Vacancies

There are 7,268 vacancies in total. Constable (Civil) accounts for 4,219 of them and is a district-cadre post, with district-wise and category-wise vacancies given in the advertisement's annexure. Constable OISF has 2,212 posts in battalion cadre, Constable (Communication) has 300, Firefighter 317, Firefighting Driver 62, Driver PMT 154 and Traffic Constable just 4. The category-wise break-up, including vacancies reserved for women, Ex-Servicemen, sportspersons and Ex-Agniveers, is set out post-wise in the advertisement, and the number of posts can change with the requisitioning authorities' requirements.

Who can apply

The education bar is deliberately set at school level, which is the point of a below-graduate examination. Constable (Civil), Firefighter, Firefighting Driver and Traffic Constable require a pass in the Higher Secondary Examination (+2) or an equivalent examination. Constable OISF and Driver PMT require a pass in the High School Certificate Examination (Matriculation or 10th class) or equivalent. Constable (Communication) is the exception: it requires +2 in Science with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Electronics or Statistics or Computer Science or Information Technology, or a three-year diploma in approved engineering subjects. Candidates with qualifications from boards outside Odisha must be ready with proof of equivalence and affiliation of their institution at document verification.

Age is counted as on 1 January 2026 and the range depends on the post, from 18-23 for several posts up to 21-32 for Traffic Constable. The advertisement also gives a warning that matters for Odisha candidates in particular: OBC and EWS certificates are not accepted in place of a SEBC certificate, and candidates submitting an OBC certificate will be summarily rejected. Concessions for SEBC, SC and ST candidates by birth are admissible only to candidates of those categories belonging to Odisha.

Fee, and an unusual refund rule

Candidates other than SC and ST pay an examination fee of Rs 500 through net banking, credit card, debit card or UPI during submission of the online application. The unusual part is the refund: the Rs 500 is refunded to applicants who actually appear in the examination, processed after the examination and verification of attendance records, and credited to the bank account used for payment. Applicants who fail to appear get no refund. Use your own bank account for payment, because the refund goes back to the original payment method.

Selection process

Selection starts with a written examination, whose date, time and venue are given on the admit card and notified separately. Only candidates shortlisted in the written examination are called for Physical Measurement and the Physical Efficiency Test. Driving posts add a driving test, and the process also includes medical examination and document verification. Admit cards are made available on the OUSSSC website at the same application link, and eligible candidates are intimated by SMS and email to download them. Candidates may give up to three preferred examination districts, but the Commission reserves the right to assign a different district, and no request to change district, centre or examination date will be entertained.
