About this recruitment

The Railway Recruitment Boards have issued Centralised Employment Notice No. 08/2026 for the post of Station Master in various Zonal Railways of Indian Railways. Applications are invited online only, and a candidate may apply to only one RRB; applying to more than one RRB leads to rejection of all applications. The indicative notice appeared in Employment News on 24 October 2026, and the detailed CEN is hosted on the unified official RRB website.

Vacancies

The vacancy table in Annexure-B of the CEN gives a total of 1,265 vacancies: UR 542, SC 176, ST 104, OBC 296 and EWS 147, including 133 Ex-Servicemen vacancies. One point of honesty about the document itself: the at-a-glance summary table on page 3 of the CEN prints 1,215, but the RRB-wise rows in Annexure-B add up to 1,265, which is also the total printed in Annexure-B. This post uses 1,265, the figure supported by the detailed table. Vacancies are provisional and may increase or decrease, as the CEN itself states. The largest RRB-wise totals are Mumbai (CR) 125, Jammu-Srinagar (NR) 122, Chennai (SR) 119 and Thiruvananthapuram (SR) 114.

Eligibility

The minimum educational qualification is a Graduate Degree from a recognised University or its equivalent, and it must be held as on the closing date of applications; candidates awaiting final results are not eligible. The age limit is 20 to 33 years as on 1 January 2027 for UR and EWS candidates, with relaxations for OBC-NCL (3 years) and SC/ST (5 years) and other categories as detailed in the CEN. The post is in Level 6 of the 7th CPC with initial pay of Rs. 35,400, and the medical standard is A-2, which includes distant vision 6/9, 6/9 without glasses and tests for colour, binocular and night vision. Candidates who have undergone LASIK surgery or any other surgical procedure to correct refractive error are not eligible for Station Master. The post is not marked suitable for PwBD candidates in Annexure-A.

Fee

The examination fee is Rs. 500 for all candidates except the fee-concession categories, and Rs. 250 for female, transgender and Ex-Servicemen candidates and candidates belonging to SC/ST, minority communities and Economically Backward Class. Of the fee, Rs. 400 (general) or Rs. 250 (concession categories) is refunded, after deducting bank charges, to candidates who appear in the CBT, credited to the Aadhaar-seeded bank account. Fee payment is online only, through internet banking, debit or credit cards or UPI.

Selection process

There is a single-stage Computer Based Test of 120 minutes with 100 questions and negative marking of one-third mark for each wrong answer, followed by a Computer Based Aptitude Test, document verification and medical examination. Shortlisting for CBAT is to the extent of 8 times the vacancies, RRB-wise, on CBT merit. Shortlisting for document verification and medical examination is 1:1 of the vacancies for that RRB, based on combined merit with 70 percent weightage to CBT and 30 percent to CBAT, and only candidates who pass CBAT are considered. Candidates called for CBAT must submit the medical certificate in Annexure VI or VI-A at the time of the CBAT examination, without which they are not allowed to appear.

How to apply

Apply online through the link on the unified official RRB website, which leads to rrbapply.gov.in, choosing one RRB only. Candidates who already created an account for a CEN notified in 2024, 2025 or 2026 should use the same account credentials. After submission, a modification window runs from 28 November to 7 December 2026 with a modification fee of Rs. 250 per occasion, except that details filled in the Create an Account form and the chosen RRB cannot be modified.
