National Insurance Company Limited (NICL), a Government of India general insurance company headquartered in Kolkata, has advertised 321 Administrative Officer (Scale I) posts for 2026-27. Online registration runs from 8 to 28 October 2026, so only a few days are left.

You can apply for only one discipline. If you submit more than one application, only the latest completed one is kept and the fee for the others is forfeited.

Eligibility in plain words

• Marks: every discipline needs a graduation or post-graduation with at least 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwBD) in either degree, held on 1 October 2026. The percentage is calculated on all subjects in all semesters, and NICL ignores fractions, so 59.99% counts as below 60%.
• Generalist: a graduate or post-graduate in any stream.
• Specialists: a CA/CMA (Finance); a law degree (Legal); a BE/BTech/ME/MTech in CS/IT or MCA (IT); an automobile engineering degree, or any engineering degree plus a one-year automobile diploma (Automobile); an engineering degree in other branches (Risk Engineers); ACS/FCS plus a degree (Company Secretary); a 4-year or PG degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Biotechnology or Agricultural Engineering (Agriculture).
• Age: 21 to 30 years on 1 October 2026 (born between 2 October 1996 and 1 October 2005). SC/ST get 5 years, OBC-NCL 3 years and PwBD 10–15 years of relaxation.

Salary

Starting basic pay is ₹82,485 in the scale ₹82,485–1,56,745. NICL puts total emoluments at about ₹1,14,000 a month in metro centres, plus NPS pension, gratuity, medical benefits and company or leased accommodation as per norms.

Exam pattern

Phase I (Prelims), 17 November 2026: 100 marks, 60 minutes, each section separately timed (20 minutes each)

You must clear each section. About 15 times the vacancies are called to the Mains.

Phase II (Mains), 22 December 2026: objective test of 250 marks in 3 hours, plus a 30-minute descriptive English test

• Generalists: Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, English and Computer Knowledge, with 50 questions each.
• Specialists: the same five sections with 40 questions each, plus a 50-mark test of professional knowledge in their discipline.
• Descriptive English (essay, précis, comprehension, 10 marks each) is qualifying only.
• One-fourth of the marks are deducted for each wrong answer in the objective tests.

Final merit combines the Mains and the interview in the ratio 80:20.

Things to know before you join

• Bond: selected officers must serve at least 4 years. Leaving earlier means paying liquidated damages of up to one year's gross salary.
• Probation: one year, during which you must pass the Insurance Institute of India's non-life Licentiate exam to be confirmed.
• Posting: anywhere in India, with a minimum of 5 years at the first posting. Specialists may have to stay in their specialisation for 10 years.

Fee

₹1,000 for General/OBC/EWS (including intimation charges and GST) and ₹250 for SC/ST/PwBD (intimation charges and GST only). The fee is non-refundable and must be paid by 28 October 2026.
