About UP TGT 2026

The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC), Prayagraj, released Advertisement No. 07/2026 on 23 October 2026 to fill 17,735 vacant posts of Assistant Teacher (Trained Graduate Scale) in non-government aided secondary schools run under the Secondary Education Department of Uttar Pradesh. Of these, 16,193 posts are in boys' schools and 1,542 in girls' schools. Selected teachers will teach classes 6 to 10.

The subject-wise and category-wise split of posts (boys/girls, General, OBC, SC, ST, EWS) is given in Table 01 of the detailed advertisement — check your subject there before applying.

One Time Registration (OTR) first

UPESSC now uses a One Time Registration system. You must complete OTR before the TGT application form opens for you. The form has to be filled in English, and the fee must be paid by 23 November 2026 — an application without a completed payment is not accepted.

Salary

The post carries Pay Level 7, with basic pay from ₹44,900 to ₹1,42,400 per month, plus allowances as per Uttar Pradesh government rules.

Exam pattern

Part Questions Marks
General Knowledge 30 90
Concerned subject 90 270
Total 120 360
  • All questions are multiple choice with four options.
  • Each correct answer earns 3 marks; each wrong or multiple answer loses 1 mark.
  • Duration is 2 hours.
  • The paper is bilingual (Hindi and English), except for language subjects.

Selection process

Selection is made on the merit list of the written exam. Shortlisted candidates are then called for document verification. If two candidates have equal marks, the higher graduation percentage ranks first, then the higher training qualification percentage, and then the older candidate.

How to prepare

The official syllabus is available on upessc.up.gov.in. Since 90 of the 120 questions come from your teaching subject, focus most of your time there, and use the 30 General Knowledge questions to build a lead. Practise with the negative marking in mind: with +3 for a right answer and −1 for a wrong one, a blind guess on a four-option question gains nothing on average, so attempt a question when you can rule out at least one option.
