What is PM Ujjwala Yojana?
Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) provides clean cooking gas (LPG) connections to women from poor households, so that families can switch from wood, coal and dung cakes. The current phase is commonly called Ujjwala 2.0.
Benefits
- A deposit-free LPG connection.
- The first LPG refill and a stove (hotplate), both free of cost, provided by the oil marketing companies.
- The Government of India pays the connection cost: ₹2,050 for a 14.2 kg cylinder connection or ₹1,300 for a 5 kg connection. This covers:
| Item | 14.2 kg | 5 kg |
|---|---|---|
| Cylinder security deposit | ₹1,700 | ₹950 |
| Pressure regulator | ₹150 | ₹150 |
| LPG hose | ₹100 | ₹100 |
| Domestic Gas Consumer Card | ₹25 | ₹25 |
| Inspection / installation / demonstration | ₹75 | ₹75 |
Any subsidy on later refills is set separately by the government from time to time. Check the current rate with your distributor or on the official portal.

- No other LPG connection from any oil company should exist in the same household.
