Eligibility and age

Candidates need a full-time B.E., B.Tech. or B.Sc. (Engineering) in the prescribed branch with at least 60% marks (pass marks for SC, ST and PwBD candidates against reserved posts), and a valid GATE 2026 score only in the matching paper — Electrical, Civil or Computer Science. GATE 2025 or earlier scores are not valid. Final-year students expecting their results by 14 August 2026 are eligible. The upper age limit is 28 years as on 31 December 2025, with a minimum age of 18 years. Relaxation is 3 years for OBC (NCL), 5 years for SC/ST, 10, 13 or 15 years for PwBD, and as per Government of India rules for Ex-Servicemen and riot victims.

Pay and fee

During the one-year training, the basic pay is Rs. 40,000 in the scale of Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 1,40,000 (IDA), with an approximate CTC of Rs. 11 lakh per year. After training, trainees are absorbed as Engineers in the E2 scale of Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 1,60,000 (IDA), with an approximate CTC of Rs. 22.5 lakh per year. There is a service bond of Rs. 5,00,000 for General, OBC and EWS candidates and Rs. 2,50,000 for SC, ST and PwBD candidates, for three years after training. The application fee is Rs. 500 (non-refundable), payable online; SC, ST, PwBD, Ex-Servicemen and departmental candidates are exempt.

Selection and how to apply

Selection is on the GATE 2026 score (85% weightage), group discussion (3%) and personal interview (12%). There is no separate written examination. The interview is qualifying at 40% for UR and EWS candidates and 30% for OBC, SC, ST and PwBD candidates against reserved posts, followed by medical fitness.
